Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented O&M Technician IPP or Trainee to join our team at Black Hills Energy. As an O&M Technician IPP, you will be responsible for performing plant operations, testing, maintenance, and administrative functions for a power plant consisting of gas turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine generators, and plant auxiliary equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gain understanding of combined cycle power plant operations, including start-up, shutdown, and emergency operational actions, with safety being considered in every activity.
  • Operate a forklift and perform general housekeeping duties.
  • Continuously increase own knowledge by personal independent study to become an O&M IPP Technician.
  • Follow and implement emergency procedures as assigned.
  • Learn and become proficient at performing chemical analysis on plant water systems, including boiler water, demineralized water, condensate water, feedwater, cooling water, and raw water.
  • Learn the processes and procedures needed to perform proper turnover, discussing current plant status, potential problem areas, and status of current clearances and maintenance activities.
  • Learn and become proficient at performing equipment inspections and plant rounds.
  • Provide information for various plant reports.
  • Learn to make minor repairs and adjustments on boiler equipment and report other maintenance requirements.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years technical training or equivalent experience with electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and/or background for operating and maintaining mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Ability to understand plant hazards and safety equipment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and various other programs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand engineering design drawings, vendor equipment drawings, and technical information.
  • Ability to use mechanical tools and hand tools and to occasionally perform heavy lifting.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to be certified in the use of respirators.
