Position Summary
The Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in maintaining a robust support framework for the financial reporting and accounting operations of Boone Memorial Hospital, Inc. (d/b/a Boone Memorial Health) ("BMH"). This position is integral to the financial management and operational efficiency of the hospital's Finance department. The Financial Analyst is expected to execute responsibilities with the utmost ethical standards, prioritizing the hospital's interests while aligning with its mission, vision, and values. A solid understanding of general accounting practices and the ability to engage with a diverse workforce are essential.
Key Responsibilities

The Financial Analyst is expected to:
- Conduct a variety of professional accounting tasks in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to facilitate the month-end financial close process.
- Support treasury management, budgeting, auditing, taxation, accounting, accounts payable, fixed assets, insurance, and employee benefits activities for the organization.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of federal and state regulations, tax laws, and compliance matters.
- Prepare budgets and financial statements with precision.
- Manage the general ledger to ensure accurate financial data is submitted during the month-end close process within established deadlines.
- Oversee month-end variance analysis.
- Execute month-end general ledger reconciliations.
- Streamline accounting and financial processes to enhance efficiency in daily operations.
- Prepare and modify journal entries to uphold accurate period-end financial reports.
- Maintain daily and monthly performance statistics.
- Assist in the upkeep and reconciliation of the fixed asset subsidiary system.
- Ensure adherence to internal control protocols.
- Organize and maintain all records and documentation.
- Support the preparation of financial statement audits, single audits, cost reports, 990 income tax returns, and other necessary filings.
- Participate in required meetings and training sessions to fulfill job responsibilities and enhance knowledge for executing various tasks.
- Take ownership of professional and personal development, communicating self-learning needs to appropriate resources.
- Foster strong relationships with department managers to coordinate and monitor financial controls over the organization's cost centers in accordance with approved budget guidelines.
- Develop and present analytical financial data as required by department leadership.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
- Capability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while ensuring thorough work output.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and navigate complex accounting challenges.
- Work independently with a focus on completing tasks promptly and with meticulous attention to detail.
- Capacity to interact and collaborate with various departments and colleagues throughout the organization.
- Maintain a positive work demeanor, fostering good interpersonal relations in alignment with BMH's mission.
- Oversee less experienced members of the accounting/finance team as directed by the Executive Director of Finance.
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
- This position typically does not require overnight travel, though occasional travel for training and professional development may be necessary, expected to be less than 10% to 15% of work responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general ledger software, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to apply sound judgment in various situations.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial systems, including general ledger management, GAAP compliance, financial statement preparation, budgeting, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Skilled in utilizing spreadsheet and other software applications to enhance efficiency.
- Experience with software tools for identifying and analyzing quality indicators, measuring variables, and highlighting trends.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Adept at building relationships, establishing rapport, and effectively engaging with personnel at all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in 501(c)(3) and/or 501(c)(4) nonprofit accounting is preferred.
- Experience in Acute Care Hospital settings.
- Experience in Critical Access Hospital environments.
