Position Summary

The Building Substitute plays a vital role in providing flexible support to students, classrooms, and the overall school environment, ensuring that a) student learning is optimized every day and b) daily operations run smoothly. This role involves stepping into various classrooms to deliver quality instruction, with guidance and resources provided. Additionally, the Building Substitute will assist with various support services that contribute to the effective functioning of the school, including arrival and dismissal support, general classroom assistance, student supervision in common areas, tutoring, and other assigned duties. The position operates from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Act as a versatile substitute teacher, providing short-term coverage for lead educators throughout the school.
  • Deliver high-quality instructional support in both whole group and small group settings as necessary.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, families, and staff, serving as a role model.
  • Facilitate engaging and differentiated lessons aligned with state standards.
  • Utilize provided curricular resources and tools effectively.
  • Create a safe and positive learning environment that adheres to the school's management systems and core values.
  • Demonstrate effective pedagogy and classroom management techniques.
  • Monitor student progress and utilize data to inform instructional practices.
  • Participate in staff meetings, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Complete clerical tasks related to attendance and student records as required.
  • Attend report card nights and other events involving parents/guardians.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by school leadership.

Supplementary School Support

  • Understand and uphold school routines and procedures.
  • Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, and recess.
  • Provide basic operational support to maintain the healthy functioning of the school, including material distribution and organization.
  • Complete other relevant duties as assigned by school leadership.

  • Experience in instructional roles with the ability to lead rigorous lessons and maintain positive classroom management.

  • Strong communication skills and follow-through.
  • Resourceful problem-solver with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Prior experience in educational settings is essential.
Compensation
  • The salary for this position is $40,000.
