Position Overview:


The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is tasked with the management and oversight of medication therapy in accordance with all relevant regulations and standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations as well as organizational policies regarding medication dispensing, including the secure handling of pharmaceutical products and accurate documentation.
This encompasses the proper control and distribution of controlled substances and investigational medications.

  • Evaluates and dispenses medication orders, addressing any potential discrepancies or issues.
  • Monitors patient medication regimens for allergies, interactions, and possible adverse effects.
  • Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic techniques (e.g., IV solutions, TPN, chemotherapy preparations).


  • Conducts inspections of medication storage areas to ensure proper maintenance and organization of pharmaceutical supplies, including emergency medications.
  • Supervises the activities of pharmacy support staff (Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants).
  • Applies safe medication practices as outlined by departmental and organizational guidelines.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs., push and pull at least 40 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 4 hours daily.


  • Recognizes the unique needs of the patient demographic served and tailors care accordingly (i.e., age, culture, language, sensory impairments, etc.). This includes effective communication with patients and caregivers at their comprehension level.

Qualifications:

1-2 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
Familiarity with unit dose dispensing and aseptic techniques, along with relevant software applications.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in acute care is required. Valid New Jersey Pharmacist Registration is mandatory.

Experience with Chemotherapy regimen review and preparation is essential. Proficiency in working with patients of all ages is required.
Experience with Epic/Omnicell systems is necessary.

Educational Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited pharmacy program or equivalent, holding at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.

Certifications & Licensure:


Must possess a valid Certified Pharmacist credential, having successfully completed the board certification examination and obtained the corresponding certificate. A valid New Jersey Pharmacist License is also required.
