Post Anesthesia Care Unit

As a Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at Cool Springs Surgery Center, you will provide critical nursing care to patients immediately following surgery and anesthesia. This role involves monitoring patient status, documenting care, and supervising junior staff while ensuring compliance with established medical standards.
About the Role:
Performs nursing care for patients in the immediate postoperative/post anesthesia period, assessing, communicating patient status with surgeons, physicians, and anesthesia providers, and documenting care given in the PACU. Nursing care is specific based on the type of anesthesia administered and procedure or surgery performed.
This position supervises Patient Care Technicians, Certified Nursing Assistants, Medical Assistants, and LPNs as appropriate to the facility.
Responsibilities:
Effectively organize time, equipment, and supplies;
Assess and document the patient's physical and emotional status upon arrival in the PACU;
Provide nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered;
Perform safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/post anesthesia period;
Develop a plan of care for the patient based on assessment data;
Monitor patients and inform surgeons or anesthesia personnel of patient status and notify of changes/complications in a timely manner;
Provide comfort and reassurance to the patient and promote privacy and dignity;
Use equipment accurately;
Confirm that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice;
Perform thorough postoperative patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient;
Review postoperative instructions from the surgeon with the patient and caregiver and document in the patient's medical record;
Perform medication reconciliation with the patient and teach on new prescriptions;
Provide the patient with written discharge instructions and any needed supplies;
Assist in managing inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the postoperative area;
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED certificate;
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
RN with active license in the appropriate state;
One year experience in PACU or ICU;
CPR certification;
Preferred qualifications include previous ASC experience, ACLS certification, and PALS certification as appropriate to the facility;

Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 per year; depending on experience.
