Technical Leadership Position

Central Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a highly skilled Technical Leadership Position to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Thoughtfully organize and unblock collaboration and partnership at multiple levels, across groups within a product subject area to achieve organizational mission.
  • Partner closely with Central Mutual Insurance product managers and experts to envision, drive, and deliver innovative, compelling, and quality solutions at speed and scale.
  • Actively contributes to the success of the team by guiding engineering managers to ideal processes and support for their teams, participating in architectural discussions, and working closely with engineering leadership to establish standards and practices to ensure high-quality product delivery.
  • Engage with Architects and broader Central Mutual Insurance technology excellence communities to provide technical vision and strategy for the teams; design and lead a multi-year technical roadmap, balancing short- and long-term technology investments.
  • Build, hire, develop and manage a strong information technology team that lives CMI values.
  • Supports IT strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals including managing a roadmap that will support rapid growth. Manage roadmap and contribute to the technical direction to improve the health of the teams or the applications.
  • Prioritize and coordinate project teams for initiatives within the product-experience unit, collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Drive the evaluation, deployment, and management of the CMI system architecture and make decisions on current and future IT systems.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on staffing, outsourcing, purchasing, and in-house development of systems and processes.
  • Ability to understand, communicate and improve the quality of multiple teams through the use of metrics and standards.
  • Develop leadership skills within the organization and mentor other leaders.
  • Development, measurement, and management of key metrics for group's performance. Coaches engineering managers on how to use metrics to improve outcomes.
  • Develop strategies and new initiatives with their team to advance on an organizational and technical level both the department, the company and the product.
  • Drive high throughput and all connected key metrics on a strategic level.
  • Standardize the development process where needed, allow local differences where advantageous.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area and 8 years of management experience Or 10 years of progressive experience in software engineering.
  • A well-developed people management philosophy for managers and engineers.
  • Experience managing managers, senior managers, or directors.
  • Outstanding knowledge of modern tech stack of cloud applications.
  • Mastered leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution.
  • Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage human capital across geographies to drive workforce development and achieve desired results.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills.
  • Very advanced business acumen, technical knowledge, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies.
  • Very strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
