Underwriting Consultant

The Underwriting Officer will provide strategic support to field underwriters on complex transactions, leveraging expertise in commercial lines products and market trends to drive business growth and profitability. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultation on AmTrust product and coverage capabilities to underwriters, ensuring alignment with market realities and agent relationships.
- Ensure risks align with AmTrust appetite while making intelligent exceptions, balancing quality risk taking and market engagement.
- Guide pricing based on market knowledge, filings, and predictive tools, weighing all-lines price adequacy.
- Collaborate closely with Line of Business leaders, Underwriters, Sales, and other management to identify training needs and develop and deliver training.
- Share accountability in meeting corporate and regional growth and profit goals, partnering with region underwriting managers in evaluating underwriter performance.
Requirements
- Solutions-oriented with a pragmatic approach, understanding that underwriters are competitors in a market.
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience in a Commercial Lines multiline underwriting role.
- 7+ years of experience in a Commercial Lines multiline underwriting role, with property and general liability expertise, plus experience underwriting Workers Compensation and Auto.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of commercial lines products, coverages, and pricing practices, including market trends.
