Job Description

Job Title: Teacher - Guidance Counselor

Reports to: Building Principal

Accountability Objective:

This position is accountable for delivering high-quality instructional experiences through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment, consistent with the curriculum frameworks, standards, and rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Remain up-to-date regarding curriculum content.
  2. Effectively plan and assess curriculum and instruction.
  3. Mentor students' understanding of the curriculum, adjusting instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
  4. Effectively manage the classroom environment.
  5. Provide effective instruction, including making learning goals clear to students and using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  6. Utilize innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence.
  7. Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  8. Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and/or second language learners.
  9. Ensure equal educational opportunity to all individuals, regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
  10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. MA DESE License - School Counselor Grades: All Levels
  2. SEI Endorsement
  3. Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
  2. Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African Language
  3. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition

Work Year: 184 days

Salary: Appropriate step on Teacher's Salary Schedule
