Substitute Bus Aide Position

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and physically able Substitute Bus Aide to provide safe and efficient transportation services for students. The ideal candidate will be able to assist students with disabilities and ensure the overall well-being of all passengers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide assistance to students with disabilities, including securing wheelchairs in the 4-point tie system.
• Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus, as well as moving them from their home to the vehicle and vice versa.
• Maintain order on the bus and report any incidents to the building principal.
• Collaborate with the bus driver to ensure a safe and efficient transportation experience.

Requirements:

• Sound physical and mental health.
• Ability to control behavior and assist students in utilizing school vehicles.
• Must be able to climb steps and move quickly without restrictions to the back of the bus during a bus evacuation.
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Must be able to work cooperatively with staff.

Working Conditions:

• The Substitute Bus Aide will be required to stand, sit, walk, and use hands and arms strength continuously while performing the duties of the job.
• Must be able to frequently bend, squat, and twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
• Must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds in assisting a child into a booster or car seat.
• Must be able to go up and down bus steps repeatedly without restrictions.
• Must be able to project the voice loudly but in control so all students can receive instructions.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of supportive staff personnel.
