About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Sediment Toxicology Specialist to join our team at the Washington State Department of Ecology. As an expert in aquatic toxicology, you will play a key role in managing and overseeing sediment and upland contaminated site cleanup efforts. Your technical expertise will be invaluable in providing expert-level support on benthic and human health protective standards.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee sediment and upland contaminated site cleanup efforts
  • Provide expert-level technical support on benthic and human health protective standards
  • Evaluate research and peer-reviewed publications related to regulatory toxicology, toxicokinetics, and environmental fate and transport
  • Review and provide comments on technical documents, including remedial investigations/feasibility studies, sediment sampling and analysis plans, and post-construction monitoring programs
Requirements
  1. 9 years of experience in toxicological research, including 5 years of experience in aquatic toxicology
  2. Master's degree in toxicology or a related field
  3. Expert knowledge of marine and freshwater sediment biology/ecology, upland source control, bioassays, hydrologic processes, and marine chemistry
  4. Expert knowledge of federal environmental regulations and guidance, including Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
