Job Overview

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

This role involves performing specialized technical tasks related to the upkeep and repair of Bonita Springs Utilities' treatment systems, equipment, and facilities. The specialist will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various equipment, as well as conducting inspections and evaluations to determine maintenance and repair requirements. The position requires sound judgment in line with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

(This job description is intended to outline the primary duties associated with this position. Incumbents may be asked to perform additional job-related tasks as necessary.)

  • Install, maintain, replace, and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical components and equipment, including pumps, motors, control panels, compressors, valves, and lines.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment as per assigned schedules or directives.
  • Inspect and test tools, vehicles, and safety equipment; manage inventory and restock supplies as needed.
  • Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as forklifts, boom trucks, and vacuum trucks.
  • Fabricate materials and components using welding, brazing, and cutting techniques.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and manual control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards at work sites; manage the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Document all service actions and readings, including motor performance and part replacements.
  • Safeguard all assigned tools and equipment against theft and damage.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures established by the organization and OSHA.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for emergency situations.
  • Maintain communication via company devices during emergencies.
  • Attend regular safety meetings.
Additional Duties

This position will emphasize the maintenance of generators, including:

  • Knowledge of computer systems, networking, software, and SCADA, with expertise in electrical testing and mechanical inspection.
  • Manage a comprehensive inventory of generator sets and portable generators.
  • Assist in budgeting for repairs and replacements of generators.
  • Inspect all generator-related equipment.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installations of diesel and gas generators.
  • Utilize specialized tools and follow manufacturer guidelines for diagnostics and repairs.
  • Maintain Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) equipment.
  • Document all repair orders and maintenance activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; a minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in electrical and mechanical systems maintenance and repair.
  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements.
  • Certification in Wastewater Collection as required by the state.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in computer systems, telemetry, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to operate and control heavy machinery.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills using mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to interpret graphs and telemetry reports.
