This position is based in a designated location and
does not support remote work.
Key Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform nursing duties in accordance with licensing requirements.
Maintain and update medication records for students in the designated system. Monitor all current, discontinued, and titration schedules for medications and supplements. Complete necessary nursing documentation in the appropriate system.
Ensure prescriptions are accurately filled and kept current per physician's orders. Track prescription fulfillment locations, whether local pharmacy or mail order. Manage and order supplements as required. Provide pharmacy with updated insurance details.
Establish care relationships with primary care physicians (PCP) for necessary prescriptions.
Review laboratory results and monitor for follow-up instructions. Document medical appointments and details in the designated system. Track students' vital signs and report to PCP as necessary.
Create and maintain Medication Administration Records (MAR) for new students.
Monitor MAR for side effects of medications, daily health checks, and missed/declined medications.
Conduct weekly counts of controlled substances.Maintain a list of approved over-the-counter (OTC) medications.
Dispense medications as required to support program locations.
Provide medication training for new staff.
Meet with new students and their families to discuss medications during the admission process and address any questions regarding the medication protocol.
Educate students on their medications, including administration timing, contraindications, and potential side effects. Provide training to students approved for self-administration of medications.Ensure safe storage of all medications and maintain records of disposed medications.
Communicate with the Clinical Director and Program Director regarding any medication process errors. Track medication and documentation errors and generate monthly reports.
Ensure all new students have completed health clearance and approved OTC orders within the first month of admission.
Monitor student weights bi-monthly and document changes. Communicate significant weight fluctuations to the therapist.
Track vaccination statuses for all students and staff.Implement infection control measures. Collect data on illnesses through daily health checks.
Coordinate medical appointments for students, communicating with physicians regarding prescriptions and follow-up care. Obtain parental approval for appointments as needed. Review lab results and document follow-up instructions.
Respond to reports of pain or illness, assessing students and determining quarantine needs.
Monitor students' mood and behavior, documenting any changes, especially related to medication adjustments.Maintain communication with parents regarding medications, appointments, and insurance inquiries.
Schedule routine dental cleanings.Manage psychiatrist appointments, ensuring initial visits occur within the first month of admission and follow-ups every three months.
Document vital signs and appointment summaries in the designated system.
Share relevant medical information with the Treatment Team and Psychiatrist as necessary.
Participate in a rotating schedule for medication administration.
Collaborate with clinicians to integrate educational materials suitable for the student population.
Develop and refine policies to enhance compliance with licensing standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
Complete all assigned tasks effectively.
Design and implement policies to minimize errors in the medication administration process.
Be available to support mentors and staff as needed to ensure optimal service for students and families.
Qualifications:
The role requires a valid nursing license (RN) and current CPR certification. Previous nursing experience is essential.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to collaborate effectively with Embark staff, families, and external professionals.
Exceptional organizational skills.
A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Must successfully pass a physical examination, pre-employment drug screening, and background checks.
