Job Summary:

Kent County, MI is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Specialist to join our Water Inspection team. As a Sanitarian Specialist, you will be responsible for performing specialized technical work at a professional level relating to programs and services performed within the Environmental Health division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program coordination, land evaluation, plan review, permit issuance, training/mentoring of staff, and assuring compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Work on our General Programs Team in our on-site wastewater, site condo/subdivision, and land division programs as well as other assigned duties.
  • Perform work under general supervision with considerable latitude for independent judgment and action.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or a related field and a minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification or equivalent required.
  • Candidates who are not REHS or equivalent must be eligible for registration and obtain registration prior to employment.
  • Must have knowledge of principles and best practices of Environmental Health Sanitation and county and state Environmental Public Health laws, rules and regulations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license and have access to transportation in the performance of job duties.
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of word processing software is required.
