Respiratory Care Practitioner - Job Description

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner for a full-time position in Houston, Texas.

  • Salary: Estimated $65,000 to $80,000 per year based on experience and qualifications.
About the Role

This position is responsible for administering basic and advanced therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including arterial blood gases, neonatal procedures, trauma care, and ventilator transports, to patients with respiratory disorders.

The ideal candidate will have effective oral and written communication skills, be able to work independently, and possess a strong commitment to quality patient care and customer service.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to quality care.
  2. Administer medical gases, medication, and aerosols for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes and provide patient education.
  3. Follow written orders from physicians in administering drugs and medication to the cardiopulmonary system of patients, evaluate treatment provided, and take appropriate action.
  4. Perform patient assessment and basic interpretation of arterial blood gases, pulmonary function testing, and chest x-rays as indicated in Skills Check Off list.
  5. Provide expert respiratory advice and recommendations to physicians and other staff for population served.
  6. Communicate effectively with professional colleagues, manage time effectively, document appropriately in the medical records, and complete other documentation duties accurately and efficiently according to policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License (RCP) or Temporary Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on respiratory unit requirements.
