Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the Maryland School for the Blind. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school buildings, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize public and student living areas, including classrooms, offices, staff lounges, kitchens, playrooms, and bathrooms.
  • Order, stock, and inventory cleaning supplies and consumables.
  • Perform major spring-cleaning tasks on an annual basis.
  • Stock and distribute dormitory linen supplies, launder clothes, make beds, and collect and dispose of trash.
  • Clean and disinfect areas soiled by accidents.
  • Provide substitute and backup housekeeping services to other buildings.
  • Transfer to the custodial team when school is not in session.
  • Complete set-ups and breakdowns and move furnishings as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Minimum HS Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • General knowledge of housekeeping principles and practices.
  • Minimum two years housekeeping/custodial experience.
  • Ability to lift lbs. and push or pull up to 100 lbs; climb a 6-foot ladder; stand and walk with little opportunity to sit during the standard workday; bend, stoop, kneel, reach.
  • Ability to work independently, under specific instruction, to perform a variety of duties with frequent change of tasks, and to deal with a variety of people within the campus community.
  • Ability to read instructions and Safety Data Sheets regarding use of cleaning supplies and other hazardous substances and work schedules.
  • Ability to determine when to refer non-routing problems to supervisor.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
