Job Overview

Magnet Medical is seeking a travel nurse RN for a Med Surg / Telemetry position in Illinois.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients, including evaluating vital signs and heart rhythms via telemetry.
    • Monitor and interpret telemetry data to detect irregularities in heart rate, rhythm, and other vital parameters.
    • Develop individualized care plans to promote recovery and wellness.
  • Medication Administration and Management:
    • Administer prescribed medications, ensuring proper dosing and timing.
    • Monitor patients for side effects and adverse reactions to medications.
    • Provide pain management interventions and adjust care based on patient response.
  • Telemetry and Cardiac Monitoring:
    • Monitor patients with telemetry units to assess heart rate, rhythm, and overall cardiac health.
    • Assist in the interpretation of telemetry readings, ensuring prompt intervention for any abnormal findings.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot telemetry equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Wound Care and Post-Surgical Care:
    • Provide post-operative care for surgical patients, including monitoring incision sites and managing drains.
    • Perform dressing changes, assess for signs of infection, and educate patients on post-surgical care instructions.
    • Administer treatments to manage complications, such as deep vein thrombosis or infections.
  • Patient Education:
    • Educate patients and their families on disease management, including medication regimens and lifestyle modifications.
    • Offer guidance on managing chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.
    • Provide education on fall prevention, nutrition, activity restrictions, and discharge planning.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
    • Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to implement and adjust patient care plans.
    • Participate in daily rounds to discuss patient progress and care needs.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic care to patients.
  • Emergency Response and Critical Care:
    • Respond promptly to medical emergencies, including cardiac arrests and respiratory distress.
    • Provide immediate interventions, including CPR and advanced life support measures.
    • Manage patients experiencing acute changes in their condition.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate documentation of all assessments, interventions, and patient communications.
    • Ensure that patient information is up-to-date and readily available for other healthcare professionals.
    • Report any changes in patient condition or concerns to the appropriate healthcare provider.
  • Infection Control and Safety:
    • Follow infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections.
    • Ensure patient safety by regularly assessing for fall risks and managing medications safely.
    • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Quality Improvement and Continuing Education:
    • Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
    • Stay current with the latest nursing practices, technologies, and patient care protocols.
    • Attend continuing education workshops and professional development opportunities.
    Benefits and Requirements

This is a 13-week travel nursing position with an estimated salary range of $145,000 - $175,000 per year, depending on experience. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week, with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
