Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team at the J.R. Simplot Company. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting production efforts by managing maintenance, reliability, and upgrade projects for plant electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate potential projects with plant and company stakeholders, requiring collaboration with larger project teams to manage and design electrical and/or instrumentation portions of projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource for plant maintenance and reliability teams, assisting with troubleshooting and planning.
  • Obtain vendor/contractor quotations for proposed work scope and gain stakeholder alignment on all proposals, feasibility studies, and vendor/construction packages.
  • Prepare project scope of work documents, budgets, and schedules, and obtain approvals for execution.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.
  • Maintain Electrical System Model, including Relay Coordination and Arc Flash, and develop/modify Electrical Equipment Specifications for new purchases.
  • Provide evaluation and recommendations for electrical and instrumentation additions to the facility, and support new electrical and instrument installations, creating drawings and providing startup services.
  • Provide field support to the I&E and DCS staff, and be able to work additional time as needed, including weekends, for project completion or oversight.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Electrical Engineering discipline from a 4-year college or university.
  • 5-10 years of experience with electrical and/or instrumentation systems in a heavy industrial or process plant environment, with experience in phosphate fertilizer mining and manufacturing being a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Medium Voltage Distribution, Transformers, and Low Voltage MCCs, and understand and evaluate power system and motor protection devices.
  • Understanding of network topology and ability to troubleshoot electrical devices, as well as familiarity with DCS/PLC systems, VFDs, and UPS Systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes such as NFPA, NEC, and IEEE.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within budgets and to deadlines, prioritize work, and balance competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
