Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Nutritionist II to join our team at Childrens National. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the nutritional and health risks of clients, prescribing food packages, and providing nutritional instruction in individual and group settings.
Key Responsibilities- Assess anthropometric data, medical history, and lab values to determine nutritional risk codes for clients.
- Develop high-risk care plans and follow-up care in our electronic health record system.
- Prescribe food packages that take into account nutritional needs, food preferences, and cultural background.
- Provide individual and group education on nutrition and health topics, including substance abuse education and referrals.
- Conduct breastfeeding activities and participate in breastfeeding promotion efforts.
- Act as a breastfeeding coordinator on rotation, as needed, and issue manual and electric breast pumps.
- Refer clients to breastfeeding peer counselors and lactation specialists.
- Ensure effective operation and management of the WIC caseload in our clinic.
- Supervise day-to-day clinical operations to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Plan and coordinate outreach activities for the site.
- Assure comprehensive medical and social services for clients.
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
- 1 year of experience and/or completed internship in maternal and child health, preferably in the area of WIC nutrition.
- Ability to perform responsibilities of a WIC nutritionist without routine supervision.
- Licensed in the District of Columbia or licensed in another state with proof of application for District of Columbia licensure.
- Registered Dietitian.
- Experience in conducting training programs for WIC staff and intra-agency clinic staff.
- Ability to keep abreast of current research findings in maternal and child health nutrition.
