About the Position

The City of Roanoke is seeking a skilled Urban Infrastructure Maintenance Specialist to join its Green Infrastructure crew within the Stormwater Division. This role involves performing complex work in the operation of heavy motorized equipment to maintain rights-of-way, as well as operating Ventrac and other commercial mowing equipment to maintain City flood lots, best management practices (BMPs), and various other facilities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate tractor-trailer or other heavy construction equipment
  • Perform skilled work in the maintenance of facilities and/or equipment and in the operation of motorized equipment
  • Service and make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment
  • Inspect equipment for proper safety and ensure that truck is equipped with all necessary equipment for the day's assignment
  • Maintain accurate log sheets, checklists, and pre-trip inspection sheets

This role also includes operating heavy and light equipment for snow removal, as well as assisting with special events and other emergency tasks, which may occasionally involve working nights and weekends. The technician will be expected to maintain accurate records and perform inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in trades area assigned; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain certifications as a Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator and a Class B CDL with a Tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire

The estimated salary for this position is around $60,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
