About the Job

As an ionizing radiation therapist, you will be responsible for preparing rooms and equipment for patients according to prescriptions, transferring patients safely to treatment couches, and checking daily treatment times.

  • Prepare rooms and equipment for patients according to prescriptions.

  • Maintain visual and audible communication with patients during treatments.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have satisfactory completion of a 24-month course in radiology technology and a 12-month course in radiation therapy technology; or registration as a registered nurse who has satisfactorily completed a 12-month course in radiation therapy technology; or satisfactory completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in radiation therapy.

In addition, you must have one year of clinical training in radiation therapy and current licensure as required by state or national authority and/or certification or board eligibility in radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiology Technology.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform simulations, assist in tumor localization procedures, preparation of immobilization devices, etc.

* Obtain weekly port films and present them at chart rounds for review by radiation oncology staff.

* Assume weekly on-call status on a rotation basis (applicable to Duke staff therapists only).
