The Nursing Unit Supervisor plays a pivotal role in supporting the Director of Nursing by overseeing the daily operations of the nursing unit. This position is essential for ensuring high-quality care and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
- At least one (1) year of direct patient care experience in a long-term care, restorative, or geriatric environment, or in a hospital setting as a Registered Nurse.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a nursing leadership role is preferred.
- Current certification in CPR.
- Certification in Infection Prevention is required and must be obtained upon hire.
Additionally, candidates must comply with state requirements for relevant licensure or certifications and maintain a clean professional record.
Key Responsibilities
The Nursing Unit Supervisor is responsible for:
- Planning, developing, organizing, and directing nursing services for residents within the assigned unit.
- Ensuring adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.
- Addressing and resolving complaints and grievances from residents, family members, visitors, and staff, and reporting findings to the Director of Nursing or other administrative personnel as necessary.
- Maintaining an adequate inventory of medications, medical supplies, and equipment to meet resident needs, and notifying relevant personnel of any shortages.
- Assisting in the creation of comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs for each resident.
- Assigning nursing and aide responsibilities as required.
- Encouraging staff participation in external training programs and coordinating schedules accordingly.
- Reviewing nursing documentation to ensure it accurately reflects the care provided and aligns with resident preferences.
