Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Food Services Director and the North Campus Café Lead, this role is essential in delivering exceptional food service to all patrons. The Barista is expected to possess a thorough understanding of the café layout, as they often serve as a key information resource. Excellent interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor are crucial for success in this position. This includes comprehensive knowledge of the James River Café coffee preparation methods and the daily operations of the café.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage financial transactions: Accurately process sales, maintain a balanced cash drawer, and handle café deposits.
  • With appropriate training, operate espresso and brewing equipment, as well as perform baking and cleaning tasks.
  • Follow detailed written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained.
  • Adhere to daily opening and closing procedures as required.
  • Adapt to changes in plans and implement solutions proactively.
