This position involves performing a variety of MRI procedures and departmental support functions under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities- Perform MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine, and extremities on patients of all ages, adjusting scanning parameters for different patient body habitus.
- Select and modify technical factors to enhance images, using flare and SAT imaging techniques.
- Determine appropriate equipment for scanning, including body coils.
- Identify gross pathology in the human body and adjust T1 and T2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation.
- Adjust parameters of equipment to minimize risk factors to self and patient.
- Perform specialized exams, including Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats, and MIP imaging.
- Effectively use magnetic resonance and adjust parameters to minimize exposure to patient and self.
- Follow established protocols and use scanning techniques, including window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanning delays, scanning thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, image reconstruct, and 3-D image reconstruct.
- Photograph, archive, and retrieve images.
- Be certified to start and remove IV lines for contrast studies, per established departmental policy and procedure.
- Identify and respond to IV contrast reactions, up to and including calling emergency personnel.
- Be proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector.
- Identify each patient, review each patient's requisition and previous studies for consistency, and record pertinent data on MRI requisition at all times.
- Perform comprehensive screening of patients and other individuals before allowing them to enter the MR system room.
- Effectively explain, know, and inform anyone entering the MR system room of the danger associated with implants and devices, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and loose objects.
- Review each examination for technical accuracy, present completed examination to radiologist, and communicate pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
- Identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper film identification on all images.
- Maintain daily patient MRI log, documenting correctly and accurately patient information to ensure the quality of patient care.
- Demonstrate ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and implementing the physician's orders.
- Perform proper computer skills and show working knowledge of patient orders, status changes, patient charges, and profiles.
- Experience: Minimum one (1) year of experience, including on-the-job training and internships as an MRI technologist, or registry eligible ARRT advanced certification in MRI required.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited radiology technology program or MRI Accredited Certificate Program required.
- License, Certification, Registration: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging within 12 months of hire OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate.
- Basic Life Support.
- Radiologic Technologist Certification.
- Venipuncture competency check off required within 3 months of hire.
- Required to stand, push, pull, and lift patients.
- Must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow.
- May be required to lift objects heavier than 50 pounds, perform difficult manipulative skills, and hand-eye coordination skills, walk and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely, and hear normal sounds with some background noises.
- Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of customer-focused service requirements of the organization.
- Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with members and coworkers.
- Proficiency in applicable computer software.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
