Key Responsibilities

- Ensure compliance with specifications, manufacturing guidelines, and preventive maintenance protocols.
- Collaborate on investigations of non-conformance events to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Oversee hold and release procedures for products.
- Review daily records to ensure compliance with preventive controls and verification checks.
- Foster a positive work environment through effective leadership and mentorship.
- Identify and nurture talent through appropriate training and development.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality.
- Engage in the annual budgeting process for the plant.
- Collaborate with management to identify key projects that enhance food safety and quality.
- Provide training on food safety regulations and compliance to plant personnel.
- Lead quality initiatives during unexpected events or emergencies.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs and internal audits to ensure quality standards are met.
- Interact regularly with staff to address food safety challenges and inquiries.
- Work with R&D on new product introductions to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Act as the primary contact for customer-related quality issues.
- Manage investigations of customer complaints, ensuring timely and effective responses.
- Monitor compliance with customer specifications and address any concerns.
- Prepare the plant for customer and regulatory visits.
- Oversee all analytical and microbiological activities conducted at the facility.
- Ensure laboratory practices yield accurate quality control results.
- Analyze data to identify trends and facilitate proactive decision-making.
- Coordinate the evaluation of raw materials and finished products.
- Maintain a robust Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) with a focus on risk management.
- Promptly escalate non-conformances to the quality director and plant manager.
- Supervise testing of samples and generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
- Maintain the quality management system, ensuring documentation is current and compliant.
- Prepare specific work instructions as necessary.
- Ensure sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) are comprehensive and adhered to.
- Review and update all forms and work instructions annually.
- Conduct management activities including employee evaluations and coaching.
- Adhere to good manufacturing practices (GMP) and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree in food science, biological sciences, or a related field, along with 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in quality assurance within a food or beverage environment. Leadership experience is preferred, with at least one year in a managerial role. Certifications such as PCQI, HACCP, or SQF Practitioner are advantageous.
Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs), proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and effective communication skills. Critical thinking, organizational abilities, and a commitment to teamwork are essential for success in this role.
