Job Title: 6th Grade ELA/Social Studies Teacher

SUPERVISES: May oversee the activities of teaching assistants.

Purpose: This position is dedicated to the planning, organization, and delivery of instruction and learning environments that facilitate student mastery of essential subject matter and skills crucial for their academic and social growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Time Management

The educator ensures that all materials, supplies, and equipment are ready for each lesson, initiates classes promptly, and maintains high levels of student engagement throughout.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Student Behavior Management

The educator establishes clear rules and procedures regarding student conduct, consistently monitors behaviors, and fosters a respectful learning atmosphere.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Delivery

The educator presents lessons in an effective manner, engages students using clear language and relatable examples, and provides constructive feedback to enhance understanding.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Monitoring Student Performance

The educator sets clear expectations for student work, evaluates progress, and offers feedback to support academic growth.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Providing Instructional Feedback

The educator gives feedback on student assignments to encourage improvement and development, both during class and on homework.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Learning

The educator designs lessons that align with educational goals, utilizes assessments to inform instruction, and leverages available resources to enhance student learning.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Engaging with the Educational Community

The educator promotes a fair and effective learning environment by positively interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and the broader community.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Non-Instructional Responsibilities

The educator fulfills assigned non-instructional duties, adheres to relevant laws and regulations, and engages in ongoing professional development.

Additional Job Functions:

Performs other related duties as necessary.

Minimum Training and Experience:

A degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
