Job Title: Milieu Nurse Part Time Rotating Weekends

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Boys and Girls Village INC. As a Milieu Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing nursing services and administering medication to our clients.

Job Summary:

The Milieu Nurse will be responsible for:

  • Providing a safe, orderly, and nurturing living experience for children in care
  • Determining, assessing, and providing medical care as permitted under state license and program policies and procedures
  • Administering medication as scheduled by Program Nurse and prescribed by medical staff
  • Taking direct charge of any medical emergencies
  • Evaluating the physical condition of clients, completing nursing assessments as required
  • Observing and monitoring restraints, completing required documentation
  • Communicating to supervisors regarding any physical or health issues that may affect the health and/or safety of clients or staff
  • Communicating and educating mental health workers regarding any medical issues, medication administration, medical policy and procedures, and universal precautions
  • Assisting clients with daily living skills and teaching clients to learn new skills
  • Being knowledgeable of and implementing all program and medical policies and procedures
  • Providing monitoring, assessment, and documentation of all emergency safety interventions (restraints/escorts)
  • Collaborating with mental health workers and milieu supervisors to implement regulations pertaining to emergency safety interventions (restraints/escorts)
  • Ensuring that goals/objectives of each client's treatment and crisis management plans are implemented as part of the daily activities
  • Completing documentation daily, including PNMI moments in time (Safe Haven), monitoring sheets, and incident reports
  • Ensuring that any issues or client behaviors observed are discussed with supervisors so that the shift summary can accurately reflect what occurred throughout the shift
  • Notifying supervisors and/or Director regarding crisis situations, including elopements, major aggression, and sexual acting out
  • Notifying supervisors anytime emergency personnel are on campus
  • Providing direct care, supervision, behavioral management, recreational, and therapeutic programming
  • Providing crisis intervention utilizing individual, group, and peer principles, and performing emergency safety interventions (restraints) safely and effectively
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • To be a Registered Nurse for the State of Connecticut who graduated from an accredited school of nursing
  • To have the ability to deal with crisis situations, implement behavior modification programs, maintain appropriate boundaries, and work as a team member
  • To display effective communication skills in working with children, families, and other staff
  • To fulfill competency-based training requirements in TCI and Social Skills Model
  • To have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Bilingual skills
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity and childhood development
  • Certification in CPR
  • Experience working with a psychiatric population or the congregate care system
  • Experience working in pediatric care
Working Conditions and Environment:
