As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Respiratory Care Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering quality care to patients experiencing respiratory challenges. Under the guidance of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will assist in the management of both acute and chronic respiratory conditions by implementing various therapeutic techniques and reinforcing patient education.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to the patient care plan established by the Registered Respiratory Therapist, ensuring compliance with protocols for medication delivery and oxygen administration.
- Set up and monitor patients on non-invasive ventilation as required.
- Conduct equipment processing, including high-level disinfection of reusable supplies and maintenance of oxygen tanks.
- Perform thorough chart reviews to verify orders and maintain accurate electronic documentation.
- Support patient and family education initiatives, reinforcing key concepts outlined in the care plan.
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy degree program is required.
- Completion of training modules and competency evaluations specific to the role is necessary for employment.
- Re-evaluation will occur if graduation is not achieved within two years.
- Completion of the basic therapy clinical rotation is mandatory.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from a recognized organization is preferred.
Work Environment
The position is part-time, requiring 24 hours of work per week with a rotating shift schedule. Flexibility in working hours and days is essential, including potential weekend shifts.
