Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our team at HexaQuEST Health, Inc. Our Women's Health and Nursery unit is a level I nursery, welcoming approximately 1,000 babies to the world every year.

As a Labor and Delivery Nurse, you will have the opportunity to provide a broad range of support in an environment of family-centered care. You will work in a cohesive, friendly team environment consisting of RNs, Obstetricians, Pediatricians, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Family Practice, and Anesthesia Providers.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, and be skilled in labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery care. You will be responsible for performing admitting assessments, reviewing history, and developing plans of care. You will also be responsible for monitoring progress of laboring mothers, interpreting fetal heart monitors, and notifying physicians when appropriate.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform admitting assessments, review history, and develop plans of care
  • Monitor progress of laboring mothers, interpret fetal heart monitors, and notify physicians when appropriate
  • Assist mothers and labor coaches with breathing exercises, pain management techniques, and administer pain medication as ordered
  • Prepare birthing rooms for delivery using strict sterile technique
  • Assist physicians with initiation of Pitocin inductions and monitor progress of labor
  • Document nursing care properly in ERH
  • Assist physicians with administering care during labor, including artificial rupture of membranes, internal fetal monitoring, and Pitocin drips
  • Perform immediate post-delivery care of mothers and infants, including determining Apgar scores, DeLee suction, and applying ID and security bands
  • Perform post-partum care and provide patient education to mothers, including checking lochia, episiotomy, and fundus, and providing instruction in childcare, breastfeeding, and self-care
Requirements:
  • 2 years of experience as a Labor and Delivery Nurse
  • Active state license
  • BLS/BCLSNRP certification
  • Ability to work 12-hour night shifts
