Job Summary

Trauma-Informed Care is an approach to engaging people with histories of trauma that recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role that trauma has played in their lives. It also acknowledges the effects of working with trauma survivors on our workforce and seeks to build collaborative and supportive working environments and relationships.

This position will serve as a therapist in a residential substance abuse treatment facility that serves women and young children. The facility provides individual, group, and crisis intervention services to adults in different levels of care. The levels of care include short-term residential, therapeutic community, and intensive outpatient services.

The successful candidate will provide mental health and substance abuse assessment and treatment for families residing in the program, which will also include child and family programming. They will work as a team member with other program staff to provide trauma-informed care to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive intake interviews, including DSM-5 diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations.
  • Establish treatment plans with client participation, specifying treatment structure, outcomes, goals, and objectives.
  • Provide individual and group substance abuse and mental health treatment in accordance with best practices.
  • Provide counseling to individuals, couples, and families in group or individual settings, within the framework of the treatment plan, and monitor progress.
  • Administer clinical measures to monitor client progress and program effectiveness.
  • Handle cases of the highest degree of complexity.
  • Provide mental health crisis intervention as needed.
  • Meet clinical requirements of third-party payers (authorizations, reviews, documentation) and provide information necessary for prompt and accurate billing.
  • Maintain relationships with referral sources.
  • Coordinate care when provided by multiple practitioners.
  • Refer to other Heartland Family Service programs and other community services, as necessary, either concurrent with services or for aftercare; follow up to complete referral.
  • Complete all case documentation for clinical and billing purposes.
  • Maintain clinical records, meeting established standards of timeliness and completeness.
  • Be prompt and accurate in completing all required reports, statistics, and other requirements.
  • Display a courteous and caring attitude at all times to the clientele, volunteers, and visitors of the Agency.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with program area staff, volunteers, and other Agency staff.
