Job Title: Senior Accountant

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant will oversee all financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role demands a thorough understanding of taxation and the ability to lead both internal and external audits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit budgets, financial reports, and tax filings to regulatory agencies.
  • Manage the preparation of financial statements, including reconciliation of bank statements and cash accounts, preparation and posting of journal entries, and review and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, including the preparation and filing of all tax documents.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring thorough preparation and clear communication with auditors.
  • Manage the preparation of supporting documentation, including balance sheet schedules, reconciliations, and reports for financial statements, audits, and budgets.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and cash disbursements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting systems and procedures.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all financial transactions and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance with best practices and audit standards.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership, providing strategic financial insights to support organizational goals and decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is required.
  • Extensive experience in taxation, audit leadership, and financial management.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership in conducting audits and navigating complex financial scenarios.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost professionalism and discretion.
  • Proven ability to stay updated on, interpret, and apply new laws and amendments to existing laws to ensure full compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with management, clients, and external auditors.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of K-12 sector, particularly charter schools, is preferred.
