Responsibilities:
Clinical Excellence & Departmental Support

Engage in collaborative efforts to achieve efficient room turnover in accordance with AORN guidelines and Infection Control Policies, which includes but is not limited to:
  • Cleaning and mopping floors
  • Organizing equipment systematically
  • Handling clean and soiled linen
  • Managing hazardous waste transportation
  • Assisting in patient transport via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed
  • Changing bed linens
  • Acquiring necessary supplies
  • Transporting specimens
  • Opening sterile supplies
  • Moving instruments and case carts to/from Sterile Processing
  • Sterilizing instruments
  • Cleaning assigned areas in the surgical department using germicidal solutions
  • Maintaining janitorial supplies and ensuring orderly storage
  • Understanding Central Sterile Processing functions related to cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, wrapping, and storing instruments
  • Applying standard precautions and personal protective equipment

Patient Care

Execute assigned patient care responsibilities as needed, which may include:
  • Monitoring the surgical schedule to ensure timely patient arrivals
  • Transporting patients as required
  • Performing linen changes on stretchers and beds
  • Transferring patients from stretchers or beds to the operating room bed
  • Responding promptly to patient needs
  • Assisting team members as necessary
  • Positioning and preparing patients according to AORN guidelines
  • Applying monitoring equipment to patients

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements

Identify the essential qualifications necessary for performing the core functions of this role.

Preferred or Specialized

Not mandatory for fulfilling the essential functions of the position.


Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.


Experience:

Preferred experience in a healthcare-related field.


License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license for work-related driving. Current basic life support (BLS) certification required or to be obtained within three months of hire. CNA certification preferred.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate fluently in English. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, web browsing, and email. Demonstrated competency in aseptic techniques upon completion of orientation.


Other:

Utilization of standard equipment necessary for performing essential functions of the position. Call responsibilities may be associated with this role. The Operating Room Support Specialist must remain substance-free and within a 30-minute response time of the facility when on call.
