Role Summary:
The primary function of this role is to provide leadership and administrative guidance for the Medical/Surgical Department. The Nurse Manager (RN) will be accountable for the planning, direction, leadership, and evaluation of nursing care within this department.
The Manager will oversee the supervision, coordination, and assessment of nursing care delivered in the designated unit(s). Additionally, the Manager will facilitate and supervise unit activities to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care. The Unit Manager will also assist the Department Director in executing Performance Improvement initiatives, adhering to hospital policies and procedures, and managing the financial aspects of the Unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
- Conduct interviews and recruit nursing personnel.
- Manage nursing staff schedules.
- Act as a clinical resource for the Nursing Unit.
- Advocate for nursing staff interests.
- Assess and evaluate staff performance.
- Handle disciplinary actions, counseling, and staff development.
- Contribute to the financial management of the assigned unit.
- Assist in financial planning and budgeting for the unit.
- Organize and lead staff meetings.
- Coordinate unit-specific training sessions.
- Oversee clinical operations on the assigned unit, ensuring adherence to age-specific standards.
- Maintain 24-hour accountability for the direction, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of unit activities and services.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing departmental or interdepartmental processes.

Qualifications:
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- BSN required.
- MSN preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience as a staff nurse in a clinical setting required.
- 2-3 years of management experience in Med/Surg preferred.
- Consideration for charge nurse experience with 5+ years in Med/Surg.
