Job Responsibilities:
The Cardiac Monitoring Specialist is an unlicensed individual responsible for providing indirect patient care within the department. This role involves monitoring cardiac rhythms through direct cardiac monitoring systems. The specialist will also facilitate communication within the department, transcribe physician orders when necessary, and ensure that lab and radiology tests are appropriately ordered and completed.
The specialist will prepare and maintain records in the emergency room and manage supply orders for the unit, ensuring that each patient's chart is accurately completed with the required documentation on a daily basis.
Additionally, the specialist may assist nursing staff with indirect patient care tasks, provided that these activities do not interfere with the primary responsibility of monitoring dysrhythmias.
Note: Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the specialist may provide direct patient care if they possess an active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, demonstrate annual competency in CNA duties, and are relieved of monitoring responsibilities during this time.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent or relevant experience is required for all new hires.
- Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire and must be kept up to date.
- A minimum of six months of prior experience in healthcare or as a Monitor Technician is preferred.
