Job Summary

The Vac Truck Operator is responsible for operating vacuum trucks, running water pumps, and performing routine maintenance on vacuum system components and water pumps. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to expose live utilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate hydro excavation trucks using high-pressure water and vacuum systems for excavations
  • Perform hydro excavating to pothole, trench, and locate utilities
  • Maintain equipment and keep it clean inside and out
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Effective timekeeping, time management, and documentation of services performed on the job
  • Prepare construction sites for excavation
  • Transport tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites
  • Operate machinery used to open trenches and expose utilities
  • Inspect, fuel, and perform routine vehicle maintenance prior to beginning shift
  • Consult digging plans, machine specifications, and safety procedures for specific tasks
  • Ensure work is completed to specification by observing grade stakes, material levels, hand signals, and other markers
Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of machinery operation and capabilities
  • Ability to read site plans related to structural concrete and land grades
  • Ability to complete safety awareness training
  • Excellent mechanical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Flexibility to operate multiple types of equipment
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred
  • On-the-job training offered
  • CDL class A license required with tankers endorsement
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of operating machinery
  • Ability to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
  • Physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time
  • Ability to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds
  • Ability to ride in a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites
  • Ability to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions
  • Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
