Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer Assistant to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a Mechanical Engineer Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist project teams in creating mechanical designs for various projects, including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.
  • Work with project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Assist in the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various projects, including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
  • Apply basic knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
  • Assist with research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
  • Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program required.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard mechanical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
