Educator in Classroom Settings

2 months ago

Melbourne, Florida, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The role of an educator in a classroom setting encompasses two distinct salary tiers, namely Range 1 and Range 2. The core responsibility of the educator is to meticulously plan, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student outcomes. Engaging in reflective practices and inquiry is essential for enhancing knowledge and skills, thereby effectively engaging students and fostering their learning.

As educators gain experience, their contributions to the broader school program extend beyond classroom instruction. All educators may be assigned additional responsibilities beyond their scheduled teaching duties, provided these responsibilities align with their salary tier, qualifications, training, and experience.

Range 2 Educator
Range 2 educators play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s mission to enhance student performance and educational outcomes as outlined in the school’s strategic plan and state-wide objectives. They contribute significantly to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.

A vital aspect of this role involves enhancing the knowledge base of staff regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices, aiding the school in defining exemplary teaching practices.

Expectations for Range 2 educators include:
- Possessing comprehensive content knowledge and pedagogical strategies to cater to the diverse needs of all students
- Demonstrating exemplary classroom practices and mentoring fellow educators to engage in reflective practices and enhance their capabilities
- Providing expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that will shape individual and collective professional development
- Supervising and training one or more student teachers
- Assisting colleagues in utilizing student data to inform instructional approaches aimed at achieving targets related to improving student learning outcomes.

Range 1 Educator
The primary focus for Range 1 educators is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners, with structured support and guidance from more experienced educators. They are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering educational programs to achieve specific student outcomes, teaching a variety of students and classes, and ensuring effective program delivery.

Range 1 educators operate under general direction within established guidelines and may supervise and train one or more student teachers. They are involved in the development of school policies and programs and assist in implementing school priorities. The emphasis for Range 1 educators is on classroom management, subject content, and teaching methodologies. New educators entering the profession receive structured support, mentoring, and guidance from experienced colleagues.

Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional development activities designed to integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy across the school.

Range 1 educators are accountable for teaching their own classes and may also contribute to policy development, project teams, and the organization of extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of an educator may include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction of groups and individual students;
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum areas or other educational programs within the school;

  • Participating in activities such as parent-teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions;
  • Engaging in non-teaching supervisory duties.
