Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Northern Impact. As a key member of our Fire Protection Department, you will be responsible for designing and reviewing fire protection and life safety systems on multi-discipline projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and review of fire protection and life safety systems on multi-discipline projects.
  • Coordinate with and support other architecture and engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in design review meetings and workshops.
  • Assist with preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages.
  • Create specification documentation for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Perform fire suppression and alarm systems calculations.
  • Evaluate building and life safety requirements.
  • Provide construction administration support.
  • Coordinate with local authority departments.
  • Perform site evaluations and document existing fire protection systems.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Professional fire protection engineering experience, including familiarity with the International Code Council (ICC), NFPA 101, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72.
  • Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering a plus.
  • Registered Fire Protection PE preferred.
  • NICET certification in Water-Based System Layout, Fire Alarm Systems, or Special Hazards Systems a plus.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, and refinery/industrial API guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Revit, BIM, and Microsoft Office skills required.
