The Recycling Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient waste management and recycling processes. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Opening every bag to recover all recyclable materials and ensuring compost items are properly sorted.
  • Adhering to safety protocols by not removing items from waste without proper authorization.
  • Maintaining a smoke-free and clean working environment, with designated areas for breaks.
  • Manually sorting materials received from various sources and extracting recyclable items.
  • Conducting thorough cleaning of workstations, including all surfaces and equipment, utilizing methods such as power-washing and mopping.
  • Daily cleaning of drains, tables, bins, floors, walls, and sorting areas to uphold hygiene standards.
  • Removing contaminants from paper and recycling bins.
  • Creating bales of various materials (OCC, P1, P2, tin, aluminum) and documenting production and inventory metrics.
  • Safely operating recycling machinery, including balers and compactors, while following all safety guidelines.
  • Weighing and tracking the weight of materials by type and maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Sorting mixed glass and other materials into appropriate containers.
  • Completing necessary electronic documentation through the company’s online platform.
  • Reporting any safety issues or equipment malfunctions to management promptly.
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of tools and equipment during work hours.
  • Arriving at work in full uniform, including PPE, and adhering to dress code policies.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Handling heavy materials, with bales weighing up to 900 lbs, within the recycling facility.

Performance Objectives:

  • Maintain high production levels, targeting at least two bags of recycling processed every two hours.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Keep the recycling dock organized and clean at all times.
