Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at West Virginia University Hospitals. As a Clinical Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our pharmacy team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Secure patient data based on comprehensive data elements, financial education/counseling, insurance verification, and provision of clinical information for pre-certification, authorization, and third-party claims management.
  • Interview patients for clinical, financial, and history information and arrange appropriate clinical care.
  • Work independently gathering and submitting patient information with oversight of a pharmacist as needed.
  • Perform pharmacy-related functions in compliance with departmental policies and procedures to provide optimal pharmaceutical care.
  • Assist the pharmacist with the process of filling and labeling prescriptions.
  • Calculate initial measurements for compounds and maintain compounds logs.
  • Provide monographs and other required medication guides with each prescription.
  • Maintain proper storage of medications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to communicate with patients of all ages.
  • Work with coordinators and managers to develop and attain quarterly objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to policy when interacting with patients, physicians, families, co-workers, and the public regarding demographic/clinical/financial information.
  • Communicate problems hindering workflow to management in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the training of pharmacy technicians.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of pharmacy technician or healthcare-related experience and national certification (PTCB or EXCPT) or three years of pharmacy technician or healthcare-related experience and national certification (PTCB or EXCPT) within 15 months of hire.
  • Registered with the WV Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree or post-high school education in a science field of study or graduate of a pharmacy technician training program.
