Position Overview


The Division of Mental Health is seeking a qualified Psychiatrist Specialist to provide comprehensive psychiatric care within a dedicated inpatient environment. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive high-quality mental health treatment tailored to their needs.


Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver psychiatric services to a designated patient population on an inpatient unit during assigned shifts.
  • Oversee and direct clinical staff involved in patient care, ensuring adherence to established treatment protocols.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to contribute psychiatric insights and enhance treatment strategies.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients at intake and throughout their treatment journey.
  • Provide tele-psychiatry consultations and on-site case reviews to support other facilities as needed.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including certificates for involuntary admissions and court testimonies.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and mandatory training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.
  • American Board Certification in psychiatry is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years of experience in evaluating mental health care quality.
  • Experience in coordinating medical services across various disciplines.
  • Proficiency in conducting psychiatric assessments and developing treatment plans.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective patient and team interactions.
  • Experience in preparing detailed medical records and reports.

Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License and DEA Certificate of Registration are required.
  • Ability to fulfill medical staff association requirements within the designated timeframe.
  • Willingness to serve as officer of the day during non-business hours.
  • Capability to utilize office technology and travel as necessary.
  • Must pass background checks and drug screening as per state regulations.

Work Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday
