Job Overview

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) terminology and demonstrate familiarity with various types of SMT components and their packaging dimensions. This role requires hands-on experience with the entire SMT workflow, including setup, feeder management, programming, stencil usage, both manual and automated printing, solder paste application, and reflow oven operation. A thorough comprehension of IPC standards is essential.

Key Duties

The SMT operator will be responsible for the operation and upkeep of SMT machinery, including paste printers, pick and place machines, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems, reflow ovens, and conveyor systems. Post-training, the operator will also be tasked with programming jobs.

Role Responsibilities:

Responsibilities encompass operating, maintaining, and performing related tasks associated with SMT processes. The operator is expected to be trained in the operation and maintenance of equipment beyond just SMT machinery.

This position requires the ability to manage a job through the complete SMT process with minimal oversight.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in electronic component assembly
  • Training or experience in IPC-610 standards
  • Proficiency in computer operations (Windows)
  • Understanding of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols
  • Experience with solder paste application and stenciling
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Familiarity with mechanical tooling and fixtures
  • Ability to recognize electronic components
  • Basic electronic testing skills (e.g., DVM)
  • Capability to suggest future automation solutions and engage in growth strategies
  • Experience with equipment installation
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with parts database (BOM) software
  • Commitment to quality assurance
