About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Binding Specialist to join our team at Baltimore Printer.

Job Summary:

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in print shop production, be able to work under pressure, and possess a keen attention to detail. Daily responsibilities will include operating cutters, folders, creasers, tabbers, inserters, score/perforating equipment, and mailing equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Read, understand, and follow work order instructions to ensure accurate binding and finishing of printed materials.
  • Cut printed materials to size using precision cutting tools.
  • Punch holes in paper sheets manually or by machine, ensuring precise alignment and accuracy.
  • Fasten sheets, signatures, or other printed materials together using hand or machine staplers, adjusting or tending machines that insert wire or plastic binding strips into punched holes.
  • Feed covers, signatures, and sheets into various machines for collating, stitching, trimming, folding, ruling, stapling, roughing, indexing, gluing, and perforating operations.
  • Remove, stack, and pack printed material in various stages of completion, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Examine stitched, collated, bound, and unbound publications to ensure pages are bound in numerical or folio order, identifying defects such as imperfect bindings, ink spots, torn, loose, uneven pages, and loose uncut threads.
  • Insert illustrated pages, extra sheets, and collated sets into catalogs, periodicals, directories, pocket portfolios, or looseleaf binders, applying labels to envelopes or periodicals by hand or machine.
  • Stuff, seal, and stamp printed material for mailing, adhering to postal regulations and guidelines.
  • Wrap products in plastic using shrink-wrapping machines, pack products in boxes, and tape lids shut.
  • Maintain equipment clean, lubricated, and operable, reporting any issues to management for prompt service.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE, safe ergonomic practices, and handling chemicals with caution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, adapting to changing situations and customer requests in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • A self-motivated team player with a professional, upbeat, and positive attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with highly developed multi-tasking and organization skills.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to changing situations and customer requests.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull a maximum weight of 45 lbs.
  • Position may require extended periods of walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, and stooping.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to loud noises and moving machinery, wearing provided PPE.

Salary Estimate: $40,000 - $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
