Medical Assistant

Job Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for preparing patients for treatment and providing personal care services to patients in a professional healthcare setting.
The Medical Assistant performs duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology, hospital/clinic, and laboratory procedures. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the physician staff and maintaining an effective and efficient work environment that enables the physician to focus on the patient's care.
Responsibilities:
- Rooms patients and measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information in patients' electronic charts.
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment. Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
- Hands instruments and materials to the doctor as directed. Assists providers with procedures and treatments.
- Cleans rooms and maintains supplies, including stocking new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
- Responds to patient telephone inquiries by evaluating and responding to the patient's problems and questions or follow-up appointment needs.
- Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Faxes and retrieves patient records for the provider for expediting patient care.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by keeping information confidential and following HIPAA guidelines.
- Provides coverage to other medical assistants as requested.
- Prepares and updates electronic medical records for patient visits with necessary information as needed. Transcribes and mails letters per provider request and documents necessary information accurately in the EMR system.
- Makes reminder appointment calls for each provider schedule.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:

- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Medical Practice Software, Windows, and Microsoft Office.
- Must have experience with electronic medical record systems (EHR). Required Education and Experience- Successful completion of an accredited educational program in medical assisting and successfully passing CCMA exam. Preferred Education and Experience- Associates degree in medical assisting from an accredited educational program and successfully passing CCMA exam; one year related experience.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Active Registered Medical Assistant Certification preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
Specific Vision Abilities:
Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are required for this job.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours may be altered at the discretion of management, based upon the needs of the business.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
