Advanced Trades Technician for Physical Plant Operations

Overview

The incumbent in this role operates at an advanced level, executing preventative upkeep, electrical tasks, HVAC servicing, and restoration efforts across various traditional trade disciplines within a physical plant environment.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties represent essential functions common to all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities for any single role.

  • Conducts preventative, routine, and intricate maintenance repairs on both interior and exterior building structures, fixtures, and associated components; includes heavy-duty structural and mechanical equipment or HVAC systems.
  • Executes electrical tasks, which encompass modifying electrical services and maintaining as well as repairing electrical systems.
  • Engages in restoration and renovation projects for facilities, bridges, and historical structures; constructs partitions and shelving from sketches or plans, refurbishes furniture and equipment, and may design layouts for optimal space utilization.
  • Suggests the referral of tasks that exceed financial or capability limits to external contractors.
  • Maintains and repairs compressors, pumps, hydraulic lifts, treatment and disposal facilities, and operates and maintains HVAC systems along with complex electrical and plumbing projects.
  • Operates and maintains life safety equipment such as auxiliary generators, sprinkler systems, and emergency lighting.
  • May supervise skilled, semi-skilled maintenance staff, and laborers in specific assignments or training scenarios.
  • Keeps accurate records of work performed, materials utilized, and time allocated to tasks, and may procure materials and supplies through established procedures.

Qualifications

Requirements for the Advanced Trades Technician Position
Candidates must possess education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:

  • A valid Delaware Journeyperson or higher Electrician license, or a comparable Journeyperson or higher Electrician license from another state that meets Delaware's licensing criteria.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in various trade fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
  • At least six months of experience in maintaining records.
  • Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with estimating costs, time, and materials for projects.
  • A valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Employment
