Key Responsibilities

Stay informed on developments, trends, and challenges in the realms of business, the economy, and personal finance to propose and allocate stories that clarify complex and often conflicting topics for our audience, challenge traditional perspectives, and empower readers to make informed financial choices.

Oversee the writing, assignment, and editing of contributions from freelance journalists.

Build and sustain professional relationships with a diverse network of freelance and in-house writers.

In collaboration with editorial leadership, you will devise and execute a comprehensive editorial strategy aimed at optimizing search engine visibility, social media engagement, and content recirculation.

Additional Information

  • This position is governed by Salon's Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday on-call duties (approximately three times a year).

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional journalism experience, particularly in business or finance reporting (experience with cryptocurrency is advantageous).
  • Proficient writing skills tailored for digital platforms.
  • Exceptional editing, fact-checking, and proofreading abilities, with a strong command of AP Style.
  • Familiarity with professional journalism standards and best practices.
  • Comprehension of Salon's editorial voice and mission.
  • Experience with digital analytics tools (e.g., Chartbeat) and content management systems.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Outstanding time management capabilities.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a newsroom setting.
