Position Summary:

The software systems we develop are designed to enhance efficiency and functionality for our branch offices and warehouses, enabling Expeditors to deliver exceptional customer service and competitive pricing. Our integrated suite of collaborative supply chain software applications supports our operations teams and clients in navigating both international and domestic shipping challenges. This role is part of our Document Management team, which is dedicated to the digital creation, storage, and management of documents associated with shipments, supply chain, customs, and accounting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contributing significantly to a collaborative project team, focusing on the design and development of mission-critical, enterprise-scale business systems.
  • Translating business requirements into system design specifications and overseeing the implementation of systems throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the logistics business domain.
  • Staying informed about emerging technologies utilized by other teams at Expeditors and within the broader technology sector.
  • Participating in the design and technical direction of the system.

This position requires on-site presence in the greater Seattle, WA area. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate, as relocation assistance is not provided.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Java, including coding and experience with Java-based Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as IntelliJ.
  • Familiarity with source control systems, preferably Git.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a software development role within a team environment.
  • Experience in web development.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with:
    • Object-oriented analysis and design.
    • Relational database concepts and SQL.
    • RESTful APIs.
  • A customer service-oriented mindset and strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across IT and business roles.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing front-end web interfaces.
  • Familiarity with GitLab.
  • Experience with IBM DB2 or PostgreSQL relational database management systems (RDBMS).
  • Agile/SAFe familiarity and/or certification.
  • Knowledge of Java-based development frameworks such as Spring and Maven.
  • Understanding of web-based and service-based architectures and deployment paradigms.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems, preferably RedHat.
  • Experience in managing and processing large datasets.

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected base salary: $88,000 to $145,000.
