Job Title: Patient Transporter

Northwell Health is seeking a Patient Transporter to join our team. As a Patient Transporter, you will be responsible for escorting or transporting patients within the facility, recording patient movement in the transport tracking system, and picking up and delivering materials and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean, maintain, and operate transport equipment and operate elevators to move or escort patients/visitors to and from various hospital areas.
  • Receive formal instruction/direction upon pick-up and provide formal hand-off report at destination, when not required to stay with patient.
  • Report any changes in patient status/condition during transport.
  • Remove and report defective equipment to supervisor.
  • Assist clinical staff with lifting and moving patients for transfer and transport.
  • Ensure oxygen tanks required for transport contain sufficient oxygen and are safely secured for transport.
  • Clean transportation equipment according to Infection Control protocols.
  • Confirm patient readiness for transport and need for appropriate equipment and ensure that equipment is ready and available.
  • Recognize cardio-pulmonary distress symptoms, send for code team, and provide interim basic life support for airway management and cardiac arrests until code team arrives.
  • Use patient transport tracking system to receive patient information, accept, track, and close assignments.
  • Pick up and deliver materials and equipment, as directed, to various offices and departments within the Hospital.
  • Transfer deceased patients to the hospital morgue in accordance with operating policy and procedures.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
