Job Title: Senior Public Health Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Public Health Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Health. As a Senior Public Health Nurse, you will play a critical role in protecting and promoting the health of Virginians.

Job Summary:

The Senior Public Health Nurse will work closely with the epidemiology team to investigate and respond to public health events, including outbreaks and infectious disease investigations. You will provide non-supervisory leadership and serve as a nursing program expert in one or more nursing services/programs district wide.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Monitor service delivery for compliance to applicable policies and procedures
  • Perform nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, collect specimens, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management
  • Work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team
Requirements:
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR, able to be fit tested and perform fit testing for other staff in accordance with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR [Ref.2] regulations
  • Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia
  • Experience functioning in a leadership role; experience and ability to function independently in the home/clinic/community/school settings and prioritize workload
  • Exercises sound nursing judgment; effective verbal, written, interpersonal/physical assessment skills
