Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Sonographer to join our Maternal Fetal Medicine team at MAHEC, Mountain Area Health Education Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing high-level obstetric imaging, including fetal ECHO and ultrasound guidance for related procedures, while maintaining regulatory and professional ultrasound standards within an academic office setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms and ultrasound equipment in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information, including records received from outside providers, hospital systems, and EMRs.
  • Perform ultrasound procedures with independent judgment, initiative, and accuracy, assessing the quality of sonographic images produced and communicating initial findings to patients in a manner appropriate to their ability to comprehend information.
  • Accurately label each ultrasound performed, complete preliminary ultrasound reports, and ensure completeness of all ultrasound records, following up with referring care providers for MAHEC patients from all departments.
  • Communicate ultrasound findings to care providers immediately if indicated by preliminary ultrasound reports, obtaining additional images as warranted by initial screening exams and notifying maternal-fetal specialists of any suspected abnormalities per protocol.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws and organizational policies and procedures, assigning appropriate priority to patient scheduling of work-ins and accommodating emergencies, if possible.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators, support staff, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist in the maintenance of the ultrasound literature file.
  • Perform and document quality control procedures for ultrasound and sterilization equipment to ensure patient safety, optimal machine performance, and effective preventive maintenance.
  • Assist with image capture and reporting to ensure appropriate accreditation is secured and maintained (AIUM, AAAHC, etc.).
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program with a concentration in ultrasound technology.
  • ARRT registration in radiologic technology preferred.
  • ARDMS registration and active status required.
Work Schedule

Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required.
