Position Overview:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Nursing Assistant provides essential patient-centered care in a clinical environment, working under the daily guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role adheres to the established standards of practice and complies with relevant state regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver quality care to patients, ensuring their dignity and respect are upheld at all times.
2. Assist the RN in daily patient care tasks, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and mobility support, utilizing appropriate assistive devices as necessary.
3. Accurately measure and document vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
4. Engage in purposeful rounding, promptly communicating any observations or concerns to the RN.
Patient Admission and Discharge:
Participate in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring a smooth transition for patients by preparing rooms and managing personal belongings.
Specimen Collection:
Collect various specimens and perform point-of-care testing, adhering to approved protocols for accurate labeling and identification.
Operational Duties:
Complete various errands, maintain stock levels in the nursing area, and ensure cleanliness of equipment and workspaces.
Patient Nutritional Support:
Assist with dietary needs under the RN's direction, including tray setup and ensuring proper positioning for meals.
Skin Integrity Maintenance:
Support skin care and repositioning efforts to maintain patient comfort and health.
Infection Control:
Adhere to infection prevention policies, demonstrating proper hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile procedures.
Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within a specified timeframe.
- Nurse Aide certification in good standing with the State Registry.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Skills Required:
- Proficient computer skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
Certification Requirements:
Team members are expected to fulfill annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications.
